Could Artificial Intelligence (AI) cure mesothelioma?

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2021 | mesothelioma

The world has crossed over a threshold with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is impossible to know exactly where AI will take us, but some surprising and groundbreaking developments are taking place at an exponentially fast pace.

AI is being used in almost every industry and the results are surprising. AI is faster, has greater capacity, and dare I say “more intelligence” than humans. Someday, possibly soon, AI could create treatments and cures for mesothelioma.

Staggering new developments

The following are some new and inventive ways that AI is being used to find treatments and cures:

  • Molecule creation: We have seen AI create everything from unthought-of beer recipes to now creating molecules that could become powerful life-saving drugs. Researchers estimate that 1060 molecules could be turned into potential medical treatments. The combination of these molecules offers almost unlimited possibilities. The creation of new molecules is aided by the immense computing power of AI.
  • CRISPR: Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) is a powerful new tool that is a human genome editing technology. After the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, we now have a complete genome sequence for humans. Combining AI molecule creating capabilities with CRISPR’s ability to edit the human genome could offer everything from diagnosing, treating, discovering genetic predispositions and genetic modification to counteract illnesses and diseases like mesothelioma.
  • AI tracking of cancer: The BBC reported recently that AI technology is being used to track asbestos-related cancerous tumors in Scotland. Scientists and researchers have already created an AI prototype that can recognize tumors. The extremely long latency period of mesothelioma being ten-to-fifty-year average has made it extremely difficult to diagnose. AI could potentially change all that.

The above and many more advancements are taking place at lightning speed. The hope that AI offers to those that suffer from currently incurable illnesses is no longer a dream, it is quickly becoming a reality.

While medical advancements are catching up to cancer, having professional guidance can help to deal with legal aspects of mesothelioma. That includes helping you find the money you need for advanced treatments or your care.
